The law dealing with Arson is set out under S197 of the Crimes Act 1958 (Vic). The offence is a very serious one and states that it is an offence to intentionally and without lawful excuse destroy or damage another person’s property.
The Crimes Act also sets out an offence under S197A, Arson causing death. There are also offences about starting fires under the Country Fire Authority Act 1958.
